Comprehensive vision examinations are an essential part of maintaining good health and comfortable eyesight. Our examination procedure includes a refraction that measures the optical correction of your eyes and an evaluation of your ocular health. We routinely check for cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Patients with diabetes are closely monitored for retinal changes related to their illness. During the summer months most of us are spending more time outdoors, which makes wearing sunglasses more important. Excessive sunlight can irritate your eyes and promote the development of cataracts and macular degeneration. Sunglasses can help to protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun. A standard grey or brown sunlens makes a great general purpose sunglass. If you spend time around water for sports or travel, you may want a pair of glasses with Polaroid lenses; these lenses cut reflected glare enabling you to see deeper into the water with more comfort.
